| Adobe Acrobat Files (*.PDF) To read these files, you need a copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader, which you can download for free from Adobe. This allows you to view and print PDF files on any platform (Windows, Mac, etc.). If you have problems reading or printing documents, you are probably using an old version of Acrobat; the current version is 3.0. Please e-mail me, if that doesn't solve the problem. |
| Microsoft Word Files (*.DOC) These are currently in Microsoft Word6 format (which is identical to Word7 and Word 95 format). To read these files, you need a copy of Word 6 or higher or a copy of the Word Viewer, which is available for free from Microsoft. Most Windows word processors should be able to import the files as well (choose "RTF format" or "Rich Text Format"). |
| Postscript Files (*.PS) There are a number of freeware postscript file viewers around. Alternatively, Acrobat Exchange converts postscript into PDF files. It is also possible to print PS files directly by copying them to the printer in a command window (copy xxx.ps prn:). |
| Troubleshooting Tips Do not left-click on the links -- this may not work in your browser. It is easier to download the files to your PC by right-clicking on the link. A context menu should open from which you choose "Save Target to Disk" (or the equivalent option of your particular browser). You will be prompted for a file name. Pick something like slides7.pdf for Acrobat or slides7.doc for Word files. Be sure to choose a directory that you have permission to write to. On lab PCs, a good choice is "\temp". Then open the file you have saved using the File | Open menu. |
